I am going to write up a little blog post about Maid Cafe's in general, because I'm really excited about the start up of Momo Maid Cafe (the maid cafe that I'm going to be running).
First I'll start with the general what is it question. Maid cafes originate in Japan, and they're a place where people come in to eat and be served. You might be thinking, isn't that just a restaurant then? Nope! These cafes are a little special in that the servers dress and act like a maid/butler!
When you come in, they welcome you home as the master of the house and guide you to your seat. The meals served there are special in each different cafe and are all unique depending on the theme. What's really fun about it is that it can be very interactive and the maids can sing and dance for you as well! In some maid cafes featured in America, such as ones at anime conventions, the maids will play a game with you (like the crocodile game, or a quick card game).
All maid cafes are different. In some, the maid may just stand in the back until you need something, and be out of your way as quick as possible, in others they can even be in cosplay!
There are however some general courtesies and/or rules for these cafes.
-No touching. This is more a courtesy! I mean you don't touch your server at any other restaurant, and generally the butlers handle this rule. You can be kicked out if the touching becomes inappropriate.
-No pictures. Most maid cafes have this rule because it's a private, special treat. they want it to be almost secret what's going on in there (because other maid cafes are constant rivals, they don't want their dishes to be revealed!). Also, some girls that may work as maids might not want other people, friends or family, knowing that they work there. That is why when a special prize is a picture with a maid it's a really big deal!
-Be quiet/respectful. You are sharing this area with other customers, and most of them come to relax and have a sort of "home away from home" so if you're noisy and disturbing other's peace, you may be asked to quiet down. It's more out of respect than an actual rule, but it's followed like a rule never the less.
Now for Momo Maid Cafe specifically, we have all those rules of course! The no pictures rule is for any of the maids who really don't want people taking their pictures and plastering them all over Facebook. We do also have contests for free picture with the maid, or if that maid doesn't want a picture, then possibly she could be an exclusive maid just for you for one visit.
It's really a lot of fun and the girls are all very excited to be there! Of course there will be one group photo for the Facebook page or the website page (HERE) but we mostly ask that no other pictures be take. Of course at conventions it's hard to monitor that, and most of our maids don't mind getting their pictures taken, we do reserve the right to ask for certain pictures to be removed from Facebook if one of the maids disapproves.
I really wanna go now! Where are you guys located?
